Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) recognizes and celebrates the contributions, cultures, and histories of the American Latino community. It takes place every year from September 15 to October 15.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact that Hispanic Heritage Month is used to recognize the contributions made by immigrants from Latin America is significant, even for Americans. Being in touch with communities around the world makes the US special, and <\/span>Hispanic Heritage Month <\/b>means that two cultures come together to shape a nation\u2019s identity. There\u2019s a sort of embracement of the Spanish language, the food, the music, and the cultures that migrated to the US and became part of the cities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the history of immigration can be painful due to different challenges, emotions, or racism, Hispanic Heritage Month is sort of a band-aid to help heal the wounds that immigrants & Latino communities carried in their hearts, minds, and body. And that\u2019s why it should be celebrated!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is it essential to celebrate <\/span>Hispanic heritage month<\/b>?<\/span><\/h2>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

According to <\/span>the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, <\/span><\/a>62.1 million Hispanics live in the US. So it is not surprising that <\/span>Hispanic Heritage Month<\/b> is a tool to celebrate and share their traditions. However, everybody can participate in the month by learning and engaging with these countries\u2019 cultures. Sharing other people\u2019s cultures with your kids helps build their respect and curiosity, in addition to helping them understand the vastness of the world we live in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are some fun ways to celebrate Hispanic heritage with your family?<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The fun part is that Hispanic Heritage Month can be celebrated at home with some twists to your traditional routines.<\/span><\/p>\n

1-Learn about family traditions<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

You can dig a little deeper into the history of the country,important events and ask elderly people to share stories. For example, Why do you eat <\/span>empanadas<\/span><\/i>? What\u2019s a <\/span>murga<\/span><\/i>? I\u2019m pretty sure your family has a lot of traditions, and each country has its own.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2-Cook some delicious recipes\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I mentioned <\/span>empanadas <\/span><\/i>because, well, they are actually my favorite food, but <\/span>Argentinian empanadas<\/span><\/i> are so different from the ones you can find in Panama. But here, <\/span>hojaldras<\/span><\/i> are so tasty for breakfast! And if you ask people from El Salvador, they will share their <\/span>pupusas<\/span><\/i>. Colombia, well Medellin to be honest, has its<\/span> Bandeja Paisa<\/span><\/i> and you can try to cook the delicious <\/span>arepas<\/span><\/i> from Venezuela. So you see, there are plenty of different traditional recipes that are delicious when made at home!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3-Watch shows in Spanish<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n
