Summertime is an excellent opportunity to <\/span><\/i>practice a language<\/i><\/b> using fun tools such as playing board games or discovering new favorite tv shows available at Oznoz.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Do you remember the excitement that filled you as a child, knowing that school was over and Summer vacations were just around the corner? Certainly, I do! It meant spending time on the ocean or the swimming pool, endless hours of fun with my family, time to read, and watching all the TV shows I wasn\u2019t able to watch because I was at school. Yes, back in the day, we didn\u2019t have streaming services and sometimes I couldn\u2019t watch my favorite cartoons because I was at school. Bummer!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since I was a curious kid, I have loved reading and learning new things, including <\/span>foreign\u00a0 language learning<\/b>. Since I was little, I have wanted to learn English, and I was encouraged by my grandmother to do so through activity books and songs. Since it didn\u2019t seem like a chore, I\u00a0 practiced English so I was<\/span> learning a language during summer vacation<\/b>. Probably, that was the key: I had fun while learning it! I sang songs, read about great characters such as Aunt Petunia. She taught me about house vocabulary and even to this day, I can\u00a0 remember my Whizz Kids English activity book that I kept working on during the summer holidays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The summertime can be seen\u00a0 as an opportunity to remove the weight of<\/span> language learning<\/b> as a task. They don\u2019t need to do it as homework as part of their school curricula. They can practice it because they have fun or because they spend more time with their parents. Once they dedicate at least one hour per day to immerse in the language through fun alternatives, they will practice it for inertia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So if you want to take advantage of the Summer holidays, you might think about combining learning a language for kids\u2019 techniques and fun times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Read books in different languages<\/b><\/p>\n

Although reading might be an all-year-round activity for your little ones, the truth is that reading in a different language takes more time and concentration. It can probably feel more like a chore than something to enjoy during school. Encourage your children to pick up a book -it doesn\u2019t need to be very long- in the language they are <\/span>learning for the summertime,<\/b> taking the time to search for words they don\u2019t know and understand the story. You can even suggest finding their favorite book in another language! Nowadays, with ebooks and audiobooks, finding the translation can be more manageable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Play your favorite word games in a different language!<\/b><\/p>\n

Probably you have played the word game Categories -a classic that in my country is known as Tutti Frutti while in other countries is known as \u00a1Basta!- in your language. However, if you are looking to play a board game with your children, take a chance and offer them to complete the categories in a foreign language! (I must confess that, as adults, we still play Categories in a different language, so we practice, and it is more challenging!).<\/span><\/p>\n

Choose a country and \u201cvisit it\u201d virtually<\/b><\/p>\n

Of course, traveling to a foreign country would be awesome! However, you can take advantage of technology and create a fun afternoon of \u201cvirtual tours\u201d with your kids. Choose a country and search for information in that country\u2019s language. For example, if your children are learning French, ask them to explore the Louvre Museum and read information about it in French. Take a look at the paintings, the history of the museum and its importance to France. Invite them to investigate landmarks and any elements\u00a0 you would pay attention to if you were visiting the place. Of course, they have to do the research in the language they are learning so they can identify new words!<\/span><\/p>\n

Tv Shows to Learn a new language<\/b><\/p>\n

Kids want to enjoy their time during summer! TV shows are a must because they identify them with fun times. So spending time watching TV could become an opportunity for language learning for kids.
