Summer is here! That means long days with endless possibilities to enjoy the sunshine outside, not worrying about homework or exams, ice cream, and ample time to binge-watch your favorite TV shows while learning a language. Summer break is the perfect time to explore new countries and sharpen language skills with Oznoz.
While growing up, my parents enjoyed having us at home all day – my grandma was there to help them – enjoying some time in the swimming pool, long walks with the dogs, watching the sunset, and plenty of time to read our favorite books and watch TV shows that we couldn’t normally watch because, bummer, not on a school night.
However, learning should be prioritized. It’s not as if we don’t learn from all the experiences we encounter in life, even if it means staying at home baking a cake! Summer can be an opportunity to expand language learning, and if your children need to learn a new language, you might engage them during the summer months while they are relaxing at home. Forget about thinking that learning a language has to be boring! Within this blog, you will find plenty of alternatives for your children to learn and have fun at the same time. They can easily do it through reading books or watching kids’ TV shows. The good news is that Oznoz has curated content suitable for different ages and it is entirely free!
Here’s shows you can binge-watch during the summer with the kids that focus on one particular language.
Spanish:
My Dad the Rockstar
This show is fun! Parents will appreciate the heavy beats while the main character’s dad looks like Gene Simmons, the Kiss bassist. In fact, Gene Simmons is the creator of this tv show along with Willy, a 12-year-old who hates his father’s fame and tries to live a normal life.
Willy’s attempts to avoid his family’s craziness are perfect for the rock-and-roll summer nights.
French:

Although the episodes are short and sweet, this show has little challenges to practice all summer. Each episode features choreography for your child to learn by following the instructors. They will learn simple words such as “droite” and “gauche” and bop along with some dancing fun.
Mandarin:
Bob the Builder
You may have seen Bob the Builder, the popular cartoon from years ago. It’s time to show the new generation the positivity that Bob has when working with his team to build things around the town! Each episode is 10 minutes long, so it’s a show that your children can watch over the course of a few days during the summer while practicing Mandarin.
German:
Heidi
Looking for a way for your kids to practice German? Heidi is a classic, intergenerational TV treasure for children to watch and learn. Heidi lives among the blooming flowers and fields in the cool Swiss Alps. Your kids will feel the breeze watching in the summer months while transporting to a foreign land and speaking German!
English:
Bob’s Beach
Bob is a city dog who suddenly finds himself on a desert island. From the opening jingle, the summer vibes can be experienced and each episode has water, beaches, and a tropical feel with tons of laughs. More than 30 episodes are available to watch for free!
Of course, the summer is meant to be spent outdoors, but let’s face it, there are times when the sun is way too hot and damaging that children might need to wait until it is safe for their skin to be exposed to the sun. Those moments are perfect for introducing a new language while finding a favorite cartoon to watch all summer!
